The Acrylick session is back May 22nd with a special Hip-Hop vs. EDM edition. We will have the fresh setup of 10+ turntables/5+ mixers by Odyssey inside as well as the EDM mix session in the patio brought to you by Beatport & Pioneer DJ. DJ Revolution & DJ Dynamix will be doing exhibitions at the scratch session while Colette and Fei Fei keep it moving outside in the patio. We will be having raffles, open bar (21+) and BBQ. It’s also Free Admission. Attendees must RSVP at party@beatport.com.

Electric Daisy Carnival, commonly known as EDC, is arguably one of the biggest music festivals in North America. Last year close to 300,000 people were in attendance throughout the entire weekend. EDC, which was started in Los Angeles in 1997, was moved to Las Vegas last year due to conflicts with the city of LA. Even though the move to Las Vegas was a great decision. This year they are even expanding to New York. This year it is on June 8-10 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Three nights, seven stages, the best DJs in the world, and an experience you can only imagine live. Lastly, you’re in Vegas!!! EDC is a must-go-to event this year…

Acrylick Red Bull Thre3style Recap & Photos

Playhouse was the place to be last night for the Red Bull Thre3style Battle 2012. It was a DJ reunion with all the major area dj’s in the house to support. Contestants Butch, Dynamix, Kid Cut-Up, Quix-05, Dini, Steve 1der, As-Is and Compose battled it out to see who was the best crowd rocker of the night. It was judged by Captain Grahm Funke, Adam12 from She Wants Revenge and Smog Record’s 12th Planet. All of them had great sets and it was a close battle. After all of the disses, mashups, scratching, fist pumping and crowd surfing Dynamix defended his title with Compose taking 2nd and Kid Cut-Up taking 3rd. Next up is the Red Bull U.S. Finals.

R.I.P. Adam Yauch AKA MCA from the Beastie Boys

Adam Yauch, one-third of the pioneering hip-hop group the Beastie Boys, has died at the age of 47, Rolling Stone has learned. Yauch, also known as MCA, had been in treatment for cancer since 2009. The rapper was diagnosed in 2009 after discovering a tumor in his salivary gland.

Yauch sat out the Beastie Boys’ induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April, and his treatments delayed the release of the group’s most recent album, Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2. The Beastie Boys had not performed live since the summer of 2009, and Yauch’s illness prevented the group from appearing in music videos for Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2.

Yauch co-founded the Beastie Boys with Mike “Mike D” Diamond and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horowitz in 1979. The band started off as a hardcore punk group, but soon began experimenting with hip-hop. The band broke big with their first proper album, Licensed to Ill, in 1986, and further albums Paul’s Boutique, Check Your Head and Ill Communication cemented the band as a true superstar act.

In addition to his career with the Beastie Boys, Yauch was heavily involved in the movement to free Tibet and co-organized the Tibetan Freedom Concerts of the late Nineties. Yauch was also directed many of the Beastie Boys’ music videos under the pseudonym Nathaniel Horblower. In 2002, he launched the film production company Oscilloscope Laboratories.

We are excited to once again, partner up with Redbull and bring the Redbull Thre3style competition to Los Angeles. The competition consist of 8 competitors from all around Los Angeles, mixing Three different genres along with displaying technique and versatility. The winner when then get invited to the United States championship, and will have the chance to make it to the World Finals.
